Dr. Huiyao Wang

Dr. Huiyao Wang is the President of the Center for China and Globalization, a Chinese think tank on global talents, returnees and migration. He is also a Vice Chairman of China Overseas Returned Scholars Association, a national association affiliated with Chinese government, which has over 80,000 members in China returned from overseas. In addition he is also a Vice Chairman of China Talent Society of Ministry of Human Resources and Vice Chairman of China Association for International Economic Cooperation of Ministry of Commerce. He is currently a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School, a Senior Fellow at Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and was a Visiting Fellow at Brookings Institution.

Dr. Wang has been a senior advisor to the Chinese government and international institutions. He has served as a Task Force Leader for Global Talents Strategy Study Group for Central Government of China and he is an Economic Team Leader for Overseas Experts Advisory Committee of China State Council Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. He has also served as an expert for the drafting of China Mid-Long Term National Talent Development Plan 2010-2020. Dr. Wang used to work as an official for Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (now Ministry of Commerce) and was responsible for numerous Chinese firms going global.

Dr. Wang’s international experience includes serving as Chief Trade Representative for Canada Quebec Government Office in Hong Kong and China, Director-Asia of SNC-Lavalin, and Vice President for AMEC-Agra in Canada. He had also worked as senior adviser to GE, Siemens, Alston, ABB, Westinghouse, and Mitsubishi as well as Metropolis Project and AESC for their activities in China. 

 

Dr. Wang has a bachelor degree from Guangdong Foreign Studies University in China and pursued graduate studies at University of Windsor, University of Western Ontario in Canada and University of Manchester in UK. He obtained his MBA and Ph.D. degree in international management at Harvard. He has taught as Adjunct Professor at Guanghua Management School of Peking University and Richard Ivey Business School of University of Western Ontario. He also sits on the advisory board of Ivey Asia in Hong Kong and has been a visiting professor of many well-known universities in China. 

 

Dr. Wang has published over 30 books and 100 articles and papers on global talents, overseas Chinese, Chinese entrepreneurs, Chinese returnees, Chinese MNCs and Chinese firms going global. His latest English books include Entrepreneurial and Business Elites of China: The Chinese Returnees Who Have Shaped Modern China, and Globalizing China, The Strategy, Influence and Success of Chinese Returnee Entrepreneurs, both books published by Emerald Publishing from United Kingdom.
